I have been teaching piano for nearly 20 years. My students range from school age, to advanced university and adult students, to adult beginners, and everything in between.

I take an artist-centric approach; that is, always putting the tone, technique and artistry of a performance before excessive theory and academic requirements. My students learn how to make a beautiful sound at the instrument, explore improvisation, and compose their own pieces. We do lots of playing by ear, and for beginners, I often teach students to play before reading music (in the same way we learn to speak before learning to read). We delve deep into the story of each piece, and always look at what we are trying to express through music.

There is no age limit on learning the piano! You are never too old to start, and children can begin as early as 5 – or earlier if they’re showing a keen interest. Teaching advanced students, I draw on my years studying at Manhattan School of Music, Sydney Conservatorium and Vienna Conservatorium where I had masterclasses with and studied under some world class teachers.

My piano studio is located in Melbourne, however I also teach online which means my students are in different states and even continents.

It is an absolute joy to share everything I know about how to play this sublime instrument.
